Kevin Jackson

I am an experienced and well-regarded barrister having practised family law for over 30 years. I specialise in child custody and contact disputes. I also specialise in injunction proceedings where there are allegations of domestic abuse or violence between couples. I am known for my ability to manage difficult and complex cases including those involving serious allegations.

I work closely with clients to ensure that there is a clear understanding of the issues in the case. I give objective advice as to what can reasonably be achieved through the court proceedings and I advise the client on a clear pathway to achieving realistic and sensible outcomes. Along the way, I explain how the court process works and what procedures need to be followed. I assist and advise on the preparation of court documents such as court bundles, position statements and statements of evidence:

“We have regularly instructed Kevin Jackson who has achieved some very good outcomes and received excellent feedback from our clients.” [A solicitor who regularly instructs Kevin Jackson in non-Direct Public Access cases]

“You have really helped me and made me feel safe with you. Your advice was always spot on and excellent.”

“Thank you so much for your help with this. You certainly had a calming and reassuring effect throughout the process. I am immensely grateful for the overall outcome, credit to you of course.” [Mrs. C a Direct Public Access client]

“I would like to say how pleased I am with the work that Mr. Kevin Jackson provided for me. Not only was Mr. Jackson efficient and helpful, he also helped me feel at ease on a very stressful day and had an extensive legal knowledge which helped provide me with a favourable outcome at court. I would recommend Mr. Jackson to anyone looking for a barrister” [Mrs. W a Direct Public Access client]

CORONAVIRUS AND ITS IMPACT ON COURT PROCEEDINGS

Due to coronavirus, the courts have had to develop safe practices. Whilst some ‘in person’ court hearings are still taking place, many court hearings are being conducted remotely either by telephone or by video. These hearings are often time-limited and there may be long adjournments between court hearings. I can advise clients on how remote proceedings operate and how to make the most effective use of these hearings to advance the case.

Private Law (Child Arrangements Programme)

My clients include parents, grandparents, other family members or unrelated adults who are significant figures in the child’s life.

My cases involve issues such as:

  • With whom the child should live
  • what time the child should spend with each parent or with other family members
  • applications for permission to take the child to live abroad
  • issues concerning the child’s upbringing such as choice of school or religion

I act in some cases where the issue is simply which parent the child should live with, or what periods of time the child should spend with the other parent. However, most of my cases involve serious or complex issues such as parental ‘alienation’, domestic violence or abuse, or alcohol/ substance misuse.

Other cases involve applications by a parent to move abroad with the child or where there is a dispute as to for example, which school the children should attend or what religion they should be brought up in. Because these issues can have profound and lifelong implications for the child and their relationship with each parent, they are often the most contentious and heavily contested cases and therefore require careful consideration from the earliest stage of the court proceedings.
