The Direct to Barrister scheme allows our barristers to work directly with you in Public Law cases where care proceedings are bought and you have an interest in the child’s welfare, but aren’t eligible for Legal Aid. Public Law Children cases are those concerning the ongoing care, placement and possible adoption proceedings for children. We are experienced at working with the local authority to reach agreements – always with a focus on the best interests of the child.
If you are a family member other than a parent (for example, a grandparent who wishes to look after your grandchild, or have a say in the arrangements made for them) you won’t be able to get Legal Aid. However, we can advise and represent you through the Direct Public Access scheme to ensure you have a say in your relative’s future.
Dealing with sensitive and complex issues
We have a reputation for effectively representing clients where there are complex and sensitive issues involved. Our Family Law barristers are experienced at dealing with such cases at all levels, including fact-finding hearings and final hearings
Our team provides representation and advice in all areas of public law, and accepts instructions from any relative in care proceedings. We’re also experienced at working through an interpreter, and several of the team are particularly well known for their supportiveness in working with clients who are vulnerable or afraid of engaging with the legal system.
